Types of Issues

Understanding whether your matter is a dispute or a complaint.

2.1 · Disputes

A dispute arises when there is a disagreement over a factual or procedural matter. Common disputes include:

  • Disagreement over match results or scores
  • Fixture scheduling or postponement disagreements
  • Player eligibility challenges
  • Failure to submit a Fixture Report on time
  • Conduct of the home team (e.g. not providing courts or balls)

2.2 · Complaints

A complaint arises when a participant believes a rule, policy, or code has been violated. Common complaints include:

  • Unsportsmanlike or abusive behaviour on or off court
  • Alleged breaches of the Code of Conduct
  • Discrimination or harassment
  • Deliberate manipulation of a match result
02

Step 1 — Team Level

Always try to resolve the matter between captains before escalating.

3.1

In the first instance, team captains should attempt to resolve disputes or complaints directly and respectfully between themselves.

3.2

If a complaint involves on-court conduct during a match, the relevant captain should raise it with the opposing captain at the time or immediately after the match, before the Fixture Report is signed.

3.3

Any concerns noted at the time of the match should be recorded on the Fixture Report before both captains sign it.

03

Step 2 — Formal Submission

If unresolved, escalate to the DPL Committee in writing within 5 days.

4.1

If a matter cannot be resolved at team level, either captain (or an individual player, in the case of a personal conduct complaint) may escalate it to the DPL Committee.

4.3

Submissions must be made within 5 days of the incident or fixture in question. Late submissions may not be considered unless exceptional circumstances are demonstrated.

4.2 · Submission Must Include

  • 1The name of the submitting party and their club
  • 2The date and fixture the matter relates to
  • 3A clear description of the issue
  • 4Any supporting evidence (screenshots, witness accounts, match sheet)

Submit by email to the official DPL contact details. See the contact page.

04

Step 3 — Committee Review

The Committee reviews all evidence and issues a ruling within 14 days.

5.1

Acknowledgement

The DPL Committee will acknowledge receipt within 2 working days, request a written response from the other party within 5 days, and review all available evidence.

5.2

Equal Opportunity

Both parties will have an equal opportunity to present their account. The Committee will not make a ruling based solely on one party's account.

5.3

Clarification

The Committee may request additional information or clarification from either party, or from any witnesses or club contacts.

5.4

Ruling

The Committee will issue a written ruling within 14 days of receiving all submissions. In complex cases, this may be extended with notice to both parties.

05

Possible Outcomes

Sanctions and remedies available to the Committee after review.

6.1 · For Disputes, the Committee May:

  • Uphold or reject the dispute
  • Order a match to be replayed
  • Award points or sets to a team
  • Amend the standings accordingly

6.2 · For Conduct Complaints, the Committee May Issue:

A formal warning or reprimand
A points deduction for the team
A match suspension for the individual(s)
A season suspension
Permanent exclusion from the league
Referral to appropriate authorities in serious cases

The severity of any sanction will be proportionate to the nature and seriousness of the violation, and whether the party has a prior record.

06

Appeals

A 7-day window to appeal a ruling on valid grounds.

7.1

Either party may appeal the Committee's ruling within 7 days of the decision being issued.

7.2 · Valid Grounds for Appeal

  • 1New evidence that was not available at the time of the original ruling
  • 2A procedural error in the Committee's process
  • 3A ruling that is clearly disproportionate to the violation

7.3 · Final Decision

The Committee will review appeals and issue a final decision within 14 days. The Committee's decision on appeal is final.

07

Confidentiality

8.1

All submissions, evidence, and rulings will be treated confidentially. Details of disciplinary matters will not be shared publicly unless required by law or where the Committee deems it necessary in the interests of the league.

8.2

Both parties are expected to keep the matter confidential during the review process.
